SteelSeries Rival 600 Mouse First Look
Esports popularity continues to grow year after year, and competitive gamers take their craft seriously. With their newest addition to their gaming mouse lineup, SteelSeries continues to takes aim at this group of gamers with the Rival 600.
In their latest design, SteelSeries uses the same TrueMove3 optical sensor found in their Rival 310 and Sensei 310 mice as their primary sensor. However, the Rival 600 also comes with a second sensor that is used for the sole purpose of tracking liftoff (how far you lift the mouse off of the pad when you re-position it).
The result of this secondary liftoff sensor is more accuracy. Whenever your lift your mouse from the pad, there is a mouse pointer jitter that accompanies it during liftoff and when it is set back on the pad. This can often make or break a play by throwing off your aim at a critical moment. This second sensor’s goal is to fix that problem by offering the lowest liftoff distance in the market.
According to SteelSeries’ marketing manager, Jason Christian, that annoying jitter should be a thing of the past.
“As you pick up the mouse and put it down, it tends to move off track,” said Jason “The cursor moves and you get on track again. They wanted the lowest possible liftoff distance. We designed this for zero wobble.”
In addition to this, they have also added several customization options. Gamers are able to customize the point that the sensor starts and stops tracking during mouse liftoff from the mat, thus eliminating the extra movement that accompanies it. It offers the most precise liftoff detection available, down to 0.5mm.
Another awesome feature is the ability to customize the weight of the mouse as well as how it is balanced. Many gaming mice let you adjust the weight, but it is usually just by stacking weights in one location on the mouse. The Rival 600 weighs 96 grams and comes with eight 4-gram weights that can be placed in the magnetic sides, offering up to 256 different combinations. This means that gamers can adjust the mouse’s center of gravity to fit their style and grip.
The Rival 600 contains a 32-bit ARM processor that allows saving of CPI settings, button remapping, macros, and lighting effects. It uses the SteelSeries Engine Software to allow for apps to give chat and in-game notifications, RGB lighting customization, and more.
The MSRP for the Rival 600 is $79.99, which isn’t bad for everything that it brings to the table. If you’re in the market for a new gaming mouse that is sleek and portable, pick it up at Amazon.
